Field visit and Mangrove planting:

A field visit to plant mangrove seedling at “Edat” wetland area of Kannur District was also conducted on the 24th March 2017. Twenty MSc. students and three teaching staff from the Department of Environmental Studies, Kannur University and local people from Edat have participated in the field visit and mangrove planting. Mangrove planting mission was successfully completed with the help of Kannur Kandal Project of Wildlife Trust of India, Kannur Chapter. Mr. Remith.S., Programme Coordinator of Kannur Kandal Project of Wildlife Trust of India, Kannur Chapter introduced various mangrove plants to students and the public. The students interacted with the local people near by the wetlands who engage in the fishing and made them aware about the significance of wetlands and mangroves. After completion of mangrove planting a lecture on mangrove vegetation was carried out by Mr. Remith.S., Programme Coordinator of Kannur Kandal Project of Wildlife Trust of India, Kannur Chapter at the Mangrove interpretation centre of Kannur Kandal Project of Wildlife Trust of India, Kannur Chapter. With this programme, the second day celebrations concluded. The different mangrove plants seen in the Kannur District has been displayed with description in the interpretation centre.
