Department of Environmental Studies

The Department of Environmental Studies came into existence in June 2008 as a centre of learning in the frontier areas of Environmental sciences. The Department offers M.Sc. in Environmental Science course with the duration of two years. The M.Sc. course in Environmental Science is a multidisciplinary post-graduate programme with focus on the emerging areas of Environmental Sciences. The total intake of the course is 21 (17 merit + 3 NRI + 1 Lakshadweep). The course content is kept abreast with the latest development in the area of study. The students have to do a full time institutional or industrial training/ project work for six months, enabling them to have valuable hands-on experience. The theory, practical, project work and training activities of this programme prepares the student to acquire knowledge, skills and expertise on specified subjects along with the integrated knowledge of all relevant disciplines.

The Department has produced thirteen NET qualified students. The students who have successfully completed the course are doing their jobs in various parts of India and foreign countries and some of the students are pursuing the job at prestigious institutions like the Kerala State Biodiversity Board, Centre for Water Resources Research and Development (CWRDM), Kozhikkode, Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI); Peechi, Pollution Control Board, National Centre for Earth Science Studies (NCES) Thiruvananthapuram, etc.
