Extension Activities

Water Conservation through Public Participation

The Department of Environmental Studies, Kannur University has organised a departmental extension activity titled Water Conservation through Public Participation (Water literacy Mission- 2019) in association with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on 27th February, 2019. The activities scheduled include inaugural ceremony, invited lecture and water quality testing. A linkage was established with the Kalliassery Grama Panchayath, Kannur District. The residents of Kalliassey Panchayath brought drinking water samples (ground water) as instructed by Bhoomitrasena club members of the Department of Environmental Studies, Kannur University.  The inaugural ceremony and invited talk were conducted in the Seminar Hall, Kalliassery Grama Panchayath.

The programme started with the registration and water sample collection at 10.a.m About 35 water samples were brought to the venue. The formal inauguration of the programme was done by Dr. P. T. Raveendran, Hon’ble Pro-Vice Chancellor of Kannur University. After the tea break, an invited talk on “water literacy” was delivered at 11.45.a.m by Dr. Madhavan. K (Principal Scientist, CWRDM, Kunnamangalam, Kozhikode). This was followed by an interactive session with the participants of the programmes who include the local people from Kalliassery Panchayath, politicial leaders, “Kudumbasree Members”, environmentalists, NGO representatives, students and Bhoomitrasena club members of the Dept. of Environmental studies. A total of 100 participants were come to the programme. After the lunch break, at 1.45 pm the registered samples were transported to the laboratory, Dept. of Environmental Studies for analysis.
