Dr Anu Augustine joined as UGC -JRF for Ph.D. in Botany at the Indian Institute of Spices Research, ICAR, Calicut, soon after her M.Sc. Her doctoral work was on ‘Evaluation of selected genotypes, production of soma clones and their utilization in paprika (Capsicum annuum L.) She joined Kannur University in 2003 as Asst. Professor at the Dept. Biotechnology & Microbiology. Later she was awarded the BOYSCAST fellowship (DST, 2009-10) to pursue post-doctoral research at the ‘Scottish Crop Research Institute’ (James Hutton Institute), Dundee, UK in ‘Fine mapping of des 1 mutant in barley by highthrouput SNP genotyping’. She has successfully guided 7 Ph.Ds. to completion. She has published 20 research papers in reputed international journals, 7 book chapters, edited one book and presented over 25 conference papers during her tenure at Kannur University. She has also attracted external funding from KSCSTE, Govt. of Kerala.

Areas of Current Research Interest:

Salinity Stress Tolerance mechanisms of Plants- Ex. Rhizophora mucronata (Mangrove); Cashew; Hevea etc

We employ gene expression studies, transcriptomics, transgenic approach, and studies using miRNAs to study/ reveal the mechanisms involved in salinity tolerance of plants.

  • Antiobesity and anti cholesterol principles from plant sources (lekhaneyagana)
