History

The School of Pedagogical Sciences is one and the only institution coming under Kannur University offering Post Graduate Teaching and Research in Education. It caters the needs of prospective teacher educators not only coming under Kannur University area but also other parts of the state, outside the state. The first M Ed course was formally launched on 16th August 2006. National Council for Teacher Education granted permission to start M.Ed. course from the academic session 2005-2006 with an intake of 25 students, as per the letter F.KL/MED/SRO/NCTE/2005-06 dated 29-09-2005.1st batch M.Ed. classes started on 17-08-2006 with 25 students. The course inaugurated by Honourable Vice Chancellor Dr. Chandramohan. Dr KP Suresh, the first Course Director of School of Pedagogical Sciences, welcomed the gathering which was presided over by Prof. Kunhikrishnan, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Kannur University. Sri. James Mathew, Member Syndicate and Prof. K M Abdur Rasheed, Registrar were felicitated the function. The first intake of students was 25 as per then NCTE norms. The course started in full swing from 16th August 2006. The school Conducts Post Graduate and Research (Ph.D.) programmes in Education, short term courses and Teacher empowerment programmes.At present there are 50 seats for M Ed course as per NCTE norms. Presently there are 5 full time Research Scholars and 18 part time research scholars for the Ph D programme. 14 candidates have already been awarded Ph.D. in Education so far. Already 12 batches have successfully completed M. Ed. Course from the Department and 13th & 14th Batch M Ed course is in Progress. There are two Full time Research Scholars enjoying UGC-SRF and 2 candidates under UGC-NET scheme.
