Eligibility for admission
BA with Malayalam as Core Course/Part III excluding Subsidiaries with not less than 50 % marks or equivalent GPA excluding subsidiaries/ Complementary Courses or BA/B.Sc with Malayalam as Common Course with not less than 50% Marks or equivalent GPA in Common Course/additional language.
Weightage of 10% marks or GPA shall be given to the candidates who have studied Malayalam as Core Course. Three Candidates those who have passed LRP programme like BBM, BBA, B.Com, B.Sc etc. are not eligible for MA Malayalam Programme.
Candidates belonging to other socially and economically backward communities are eligible for a relaxation of 5 percent marks in the qualifying examination. Those belonging to scheduled castes/scheduled tribes having secured a pass in the qualifying degree examination are eligible to apply for admission to the Programme.
Admission to MA Malayalam is on the basis of entrance examination. The questions for entrance examination are of multiple choice type from the language and literature of Malayalam at the undergraduate level.

Three kinds of Courses are offered to the students in the programme. They are Core Courses, Open Courses and Electives. Core Courses are offered by the parent department offering the Programme. Elective/Open Courses are offered either by the parent department or by any other department.
The students have to register for the required number of courses at the beginning of each semester before the classes begin. They have to complete the prescribed prerequisites for the course before registration. A student can change the optional courses in consultation with their student advisor who is a faculty member, within a maximum of 10 working days from the commencement of the class if the student feels that he/she has registered for more courses than he/she can handle. No student shall register for more than 24 credits and less than 16 credits in a semester.
