Drama and Art Workshop

Date: 31st January to 5th February 2020

SESSION I -‘ART AND COLLAGE IN EDUCATION’ BY Mr. SHOBARAJ P.P

DATE: 11-03-2019

The workshop on ‘Drama and Art in Education’ in Kannur University Teacher Education Centre, Kasaragod was officially inaugurated on 11-03-2019 with the guidance of Campus Director Dr. Rajesh Bejjangala, Course Director Dr. Riju Mol K.C and other teaching staffs. Ms. Parameshwari Devi, faculty of Mathematics delivered welcome speech and gave a brief introduction of the resource person Mr. Shobaraj P.P. After the formal inaugural session, he opened the minds of teacher trainees towards art and art related areas. He took a novel method of inaugurating the session and for that he told all teachers to draw a pattern on chart pasted upon the blackboard. Teacher trainees also joined together and made their contribution. The chart gradually became messy. Finally he drawn a beautiful tree and a face of woman on the chart. That marked the beginning of his class. He gave detailed description about the various colour combination and how it can be used in paintings. He shown many pictures drawn by him. He assigned the students the task of drawing a pattern on a piece of chart and then to colour it. All trainees completed the task brilliantly and created a piece of art of their own.

The afternoon session was completely reserved for collage making. The members were divided according to the option base. He gave detailed information on collage and the art of making collage. He also suggested that with the use of collage a lesson can be introduced in a classroom more effectively. Each options was given the theme of nature to make collage and each option has created relatively magnificent collages.

Towards the end of the session, all the pictures and collages drawn by the teacher trainees has exhibited and he stressed the importance of art in education. He advised the trainees to have practical application of art in teaching. Mrs. Geetha, faculty in English, shared her experience. Rakshith Kumar of Maths option delivered vote of thanks.

SESSION II- ‘MUSIC IN EDUCATION’ BY Mr. RAJESH PAYYANNUR

DATE: 12-03-2019

The second day of workshop on ‘Music in Education’ started with the enchanting prayer by Swathi V.M of Kannada option. Mrs. Geetha, faculty of English delivered welcome address to Mr. Rajesh Payyannur to deal with ‘Music in Education’. Soon after he began the session by introducing his musical profile to the students. The first topic he discussed was about the ‘sapthaswaras’. Since he has been a champion of music, his class flowed like a musical journey. Besides that, he gave detailed account of the legend, Yesudas.

During the afternoon session, he was dealt with the ‘Melakratha Ragas’ in music. After that, each students were asked to sing a song they like. Before he wind up his class, he sung two songs as well. Rakshith Kumar of Maths option delivered vote of thanks.

SESSION III- ‘FOLKLORE AND CRAFT’ BY MR. KUNHIKRISHNAN MADIKAI

DATE: 13-03-2019

The third day of workshop was scheduled to the area of folklore and craft works. The session was started with the Morning Prayer. Mrs. Vidyalakshmi, faculty in Kannada, delivered welcome speech. The morning session was on craft and craft works. At the beginning, he divided the entire trainees into option wise and advised to work in group. He introduced the art of ‘origami’ and as a result different types of hats are made out of a single piece of newspaper. He showed then how to make flower vase and flowers from chart.

The most interesting part of the session was his collection of craft works from waste materials. The models of theyyam, birds, flowers, auto-rickshaws etc were shown from his collection made out from the waste materials.

After the lunch the session got a new dimension called folklore. Together with the resource person, all teacher trainees celebrated joyfully, by singing folk songs. Asha Deepam of Physical Science option shared her experience of the session. Maths option was declared as the winners of making flower vase. Manjusha Raghavan of Malayalam option delivered vote of thanks.

SESSION IV -‘DRAMA IN EDUCATION’ BY Mr. PRASAD UDINUR.

DATE: 14-03-2019

The fourth day of workshop concentrated on ‘drama in education’. The dias was shared by Course Director Dr. Riju Mol K.C and other teaching faculties of the institution. Vijithra of Social Science option prayed for the day. Mrs. Sreeja, faculty in Malayalam delivered welcome note. Then the class was handed over to to Mr. Prasad Udinur, renowned drama artist from Kasaragod district. He divided the entire crew of teacher trainees into 5 groups namely, ‘Mannangatta’, ‘kaikottu’, ‘Pulinkuru’ etc. The morning session had games and acting. Many items like stick, duster, broom, gum bottle, etc were given to the students and he told 2 members from each group to use those properties as they wish. All students performed well in acting.

On afternoon session each group has given a topic and advised them to make a script and enact it on stage. Each group performed their best and thus good comments. By this, the session came to an end. Jasna P.V of Physical Science option delivered vote of thanks.

SESSION V- ‘FILM REVIEW AND CRITICISM’ BY Mr. UMMER

DATE: 15-03-2019

The last day of the workshop was allotted for the field of film, film review, and criticism. With the prayer by Swathi V.M of Kannada option, the session began. Mrs. Geetha faculty in English delivered welcome speech. And after that Mr. Ummer shared giving adequate information on film. ‘How film affects the learning environment, how film can be used in teaching’ etc were his focal points of discussion. He gave details regarding the terms related to film. The session was covered the historical background of world cinema to Indian scene. By 1’0 clock the session came to an end. Aliena James of English option delivered vote of thanks.
