International Conference on ACTUARIAL STATISTICS, BIO STATISTICS AND STOCHASTIC MODELING

The Dept. of Statistical Science, Kannur University has conducted an International Conference on 10-14 January, 2011. This was the first international conference conducted by the Department. The five-day seminar included technical sessions, workshop lectures, conference session, cultural program etc... Multiple resource persons from all over the country were present in the conference and it also attracted delegates from all over the country.

The five-day International Conference and Workshop started formally with a brief inaugural session on 10th January 2011. Prof. D. Kannan of Georgia University inaugurated the workshop. The inaugural session was chaired by Dr. A. P. Kuttykrishnan, the chairman of the Organizing committee. Syndicate members, Students’ representatives, and Mr. Sudhakar R, the Divisional Manager of LIC of India, Calicut offered felicitation.

After the two-day workshop on 10th and 11th, the conference started on 12th January 2019. Prof. Michal Tharakan, The Vice Chancellor inaugurated the conference. The valedictory session was held at 3.p.m. on 14-1-2011. Prof.A. M. Mathai, McGill University, Canada gave the Valedictory address. This session was chaired by Dr. Babu Anto, Syndicate member and Vice Chairman of the organizing committee. It was followed by a two hour cultural programme presented by students and local fine arts groups and a Conference dinner.

There were a total of 13 lectures (9 on Actuarial Statistics and 4 on Biostatistics) in the two days workshop. The sessions were taken by Prof. Kannan and Dr. Thambi of MG University. As the lectures were very informative and highly motivating, the sessions continued up to 6pm on both days.

The conference sessions were divided into 3 categories – Keynote address by Senior faculty, invited lectures and presentations of research articles by young researchers.

About 120 delegates from around 10 institutions in the country have participated in the seminar, and have received more than 56 academic papers for presentation.

The students, research scholars as well as the teaching and non-teaching staffs of all other departments were present during the inaugural function.
