NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ADVANCES IN STATISTICAL SCIENCES

Date: 17th and 18th February 2017

In order to discuss and debate on the innovative research and new developments in various areas of statistical sciences and acquire more knowledge related to the fields, the Dept. of Statistical Science, Kannur University has conducted a two-day seminar on 17th and 18th February 2017. This was the second national conference conducted by the Department.

The Conference was inaugurated by Dr. T Ashokan, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Kannur University. Dr. Joby K Jose, HOD, Dept. of Statistical Sciences formally welcomed all the dignitaries present on the dais and resource person from various parts of the country, colleagues and students. The inaugural session was chaired by Dr. A.P.Kuttykrishnan, the chairman of the Organizing committee. Prof. A M Mathai, Professor of Emeritus, Mathematics and Statistics, McGill University, Canada, Dr. V. A. Wilson, Syndicate member, Dr. T V Ramakrishnan, HOD, Dept. of Mathematical Sciences, Kannur University and Dr. Jayakumar, President of K S A were felicitated the conference.

The Seminar comprised of 14 invited talks and nearly 30 contributed papers. Two parallel sessions were arranged for the presentation of contributory papers. Around 60 research scholars/teachers and 50 students from various universities and colleges attended the conference. The main invited speakers were   Dr. A M Mathai, Dr. Anil C Mathew, Dr. E V Gijo, Dr. K Jayakumar, Dr. K K Jose, Dr. M Manoharan,   Dr. K R Muraleedharan Nair, Dr. T V Ramanathan, Dr. P G Sankaran, Dr. C. Satheesh Kumar, Dr. Sebastian George, Dr.TirupathiRaoPadi, Dr. Vinu C T and Dr. P Yageen Thomas.

As part of the conference, Dr. U.S. Nair Ever Rolling Trophy for All Kerala Quiz Competition in Statistics, R.N.Pillai. Young Statistician award for the Best Research Paper and Dr. T S Moothath Best Paper award were awarded during the conference. Other major events were Prof. K Ramakrishnapillai Endowment Lecture, Prof. A M Mathai Endowment Lecture and annual conference of the Kerala Statistical Association (KSA).
