The Departments of History, Anthropology and Rural and Tribal Sociology, Kannur University, jointly organized a three day’s national seminar on Agrarian and Tribal Movements in North Malabar: Interdisciplinary Perspectives and Discourses on 5-7 February 2019 and co-ordinated by Dr.Manjula Poyil ,Head ,Department of History. The seminar discussed the rural social structure of twentieth century north Malabar against the backdrop of colonial, Nationalist and postcolonial politics. Prof.Gopinath Ravindran ,Vice Chancellor, Kannur University presided the seminar,Sri.Prakash Karat(Renowned Marxist Scholar and leader) made inaugural lecture and renowned scholarProf.Sucheta Mahajan (Professor and Chairperson, Center for Historical Studies, J.N.U, New Delhi).Other speakers were Dr.V.Sivadasan(writer &political leader),Dr.V.J.Varghese (Central University, Hyderbad), M.Geethandan (Convenor,Bhoo AdhikaraSmarakaKshema Samiti), E.A Sankaran (Advisor, State Scheduled Tribe Department),Dr.Dinesan Cheruvat(Director, NIFAM, Kochi) and BabuKambrath (Renowned Documentary Director). The seminar honoured Veteran participant of Kavumbayi Struggle E.K Narayanan Nambiar and Kaipad farmer Meenakshi Ummathiriyan.
