Parliamentary Democracy in India-Threats and Challenges

Date: 30-31 October 2017

In association with the 60th anniversary of the formation of the state of Kerala, E.K. Nayanar Chair for Parliamentary Affairs organized a two-days’ national seminar on “Parliamentary Democracy in India: Threats and Challenges” on 30-31 October 2017. It was co-ordinated by Dr.Manjula Poyil, Head of the Department of History. Academicians and politicians from all over the country attended the seminar. Dignitaries from the political/administrative circle including Sri Pinarayi Vijayan (Hon. Chief Minister of Kerala), Sri Ramachandran Kadannappally (Hon. Minister for Ports and Museums), Sri. E. Chandrasekharan (Hon. Minister for Revenue), Smt. P.K. Sreemathi (Hon. M.P, Kannur LoksabhaConstitency), Sri. P.K. Ragesh (Hon. M.P, Rajyasabha) and Sri. Pannyan Ravindran (Former M.P, Loksabha) attended the programme. Smt. Teesta Setalvad (Civil Rights Activist, Mumbai), Dr. A.K. Ramakrishnan (Professor, JNU, New Delhi), Dr. J. Prabhash (Former PVC, Kerala University), Dr. V.J. Vincent (Political Correspondent, Speaker, Kerala Assembly), Dr. K.N. Ganesh (FormerHoD, History, Calicut University), Dr. K.K.N. Kurup (Former V.C, Calicut University) and Dr. Venkatesh Athreya (Noted Economist) addressed the seminar. Altogether 215 delegates participated in the seminar.
